Louisiana Tech quarterback Ryan Higgins won’t start the season opener at Arkansas, but his punishment doesn’t include a suspension, Bulldogs coach Skip Holtz announced Sunday.
Higgins, who was arrested on charges of DWI and speeding early Friday, is subject to a variety of disciplinary measures from the incident, which includes counseling, drinking and driving education and community service.
When asked if Higgins would be available against Arkansas, Holtz said “it will be dependent on how he handles it.”
“I’m not suspending him or kicking him off the team. His punishment is he will not start at Arkansas,” Holtz said. “I am not looking to throw the baby out with the bathwater. At the same point in time, we have to be firm and stern with the decision we make.”
